Georgia offered Taurean Rawlins, who plays his high school football for Georgia great Terrence Edwards.
When Terrence Edwards recommends a player, it's wise to listen — especially when it's one of his own.
The Mount Vernon (Ga.) head coach and all-time Georgia great has a 2027 prospect in high school team putting up similarly striking numbers. Taurean Rawlins boasts seven offers right now, most recently Georgia. His 67-catch, 1,395-yard, 17-touchdown junior season was the driving force behind the recent push from top programs.
Rawlins first connected with Georgia receivers coach James Coley during the fall, at the recommendation of Edwards.
It culminated in the recent offer on a school visit.
"Coach Edwards had actually put me in contact with Coach Coley during the season. He sent him my film. Coach Coley texted me that he was really impressed with my film and that I was a great player. Last week, Coach Coley and Coach Edwards had been talking again and he said he was going to come up to the school. He gave me a call when he was at my house and said he was going to come out to the school just to talk to me," Rawlins said. "I knew he was coming, but I didn't expect to get an offer so early I guess. We had a great conversation, but he really cared about my personal life, not jut football. That stood out to me."
Rawlins' reaction was to be expected: amazement.
"When he first said it, I felt really relieved. That's my first SEC offer, and for it to be Georgia, it was just special to me. It really meant a lot. My family was really happy. It just felt great. It was a great feeling," he said.
As of now, the 6-foot, 175-pound receiver doesn't have any other offers scheduled. Boise State, Georgia State, Kansas State, Georgia Southern, Miami-Ohio, Boston College and Georgia are the teams to offer so far. All of them have invited him on junior days. Others are sure to follow.
Rawlins has been in conversations with Coley at Georgia about attending the Jan. 31 junior day, or perhaps moving it up to take an individual visit sometime in January.
Rawlins' has spent much of his offseason focused on indoor track, where he recently posted a 6.93-second personal record in the 60-meter dash.
Georgia began what is truthfully its first coaching search of the offseason last week when outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe took the same position with the Dallas Cowboys. It's taken a minute for the search to get going, but it seems like the Bulldogs are making progress.
Dawgs247 has learned that interviews for the vacancy have begun. It's unclear how soon Georgia wants to make a hire, but the ball is rolling toward zeroing in on top candidates with spring practice a little over a month away.
These are the names I'm currently watching for this position, in no particular order. That's not to say they're the only candidates for the job. If I hear of other coaches who have emerged as part of this search — even names we included in the 1.0 version of this hot board — I will let y'all know.
